ASUU UPDATE: ASUU And FG Finally Reach A Compromise

University students affected by the ongoing ASUU strike will soon be smiling back to school as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it has agreed to consider the federal government’s offer and suspend their strike.

The news is coming after about 12 hours of closed door meeting between ASUU and and the federal government delegation in Abuja which started around 1:38pm on Thursday, September 7 and ended 2:15 a.m. on Friday, September 8.

The Meeting is the third reconciliation meeting between both parties.

During the meeting, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige gave the assurances of government’s commitment to start off the payment of salary shortfalls as well as the quarterly revitalization funds for universities immediately.

ASUU, however accepted the proposal presented by the government with the view of showing the proposal to its members and get back to the government in one week.

The national president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, told journalists after the meeting that the union will come back after one week to take its final decisions.

He said: “Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration.”

Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, said ASUU’s demands have been attended to and the union will get back to government in a week after consulting with its principals and reviewing the documents.
