BREAKING: NCDC Approves ₦100,000 Weekly Support For Contacts In Isolation Centers

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reportedly approved a weekly payment of ₦100,000 for people identified as Ebola contacts and placed in isolation.

The financial support is intended to help cover feeding and family maintenance expenses during the isolation period.

The reported measure aims to ease the financial burden on affected individuals while they comply with isolation requirements.

“We are providing ₦100,000 per person per week just to maintain their comfort and feeding, because they were complaining,” Idris said, noting that the intervention was not initially planned but became necessary due to the circumstances of the outbreak.

He stressed that other states must also prepare to provide similar support should Ebola spread beyond the Federal Capital Territory.

Nigeria has recorded one confirmed case, a woman who travelled from Uganda and tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain while 53 primary contacts are under surveillance.

The NCDC has established isolation facilities, strengthened infection prevention measures, and deployed protective equipment to healthcare centres.

Idris urged Nigerians to cooperate with contact tracing teams, avoid rumours, and rely on verified information to help contain the outbreak.

The World Health Organisation has identified the case as an imported infection, with investigations ongoing to trace the source. Nigeria is drawing on lessons from its successful containment of Ebola in 2014, but officials warn that coordinated action across states will be critical to halting transmission.
