Cubana Chief Priest has reacted to reports of his loss of the APC House of Representatives ticket during the party’s direct primaries in Imo State, insisting that he never took part in the exercise.
He explained that his decision to step aside followed consultations with party leaders, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who presented the party’s zoning arrangement for the federal constituency.
He said:
“As a loyal party man & committed progressive, I wish to clearly state my position. Following my consultations and meeting with our leader of the party in the state and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, His Excellency presented the position of the party regarding zoning within the Federal Constituency and his resolve to ensure that orlu LGA at least gets two terms before the position leaves for another LGA.Chief Priest maintained that although he initially aspired for the position based on his belief that the current occupant was underperforming, he ultimately respected the party’s internal decision.
“He made the argument that it was not the turn of my Local Government Area to occupy the seat at this time, especially considering that my elder brother, Asiwaju Jerry Alagboso, had previously served three terms in the House. Oru East where he comes from has him occupying as governor so is fair we allow incumbent go again. I understood and respected that position.”
He dismissed claims that his name was being used for online drama and misinformation.
He also stressed that his ambition was personal and not backed by any obligation to anyone.
