A national summit convened by leaders of opposition political parties is currently in progress in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State
The gathering, holding this Saturday at the Banquet Hall of the Oyo State Government, is centred on the theme “That We May Work Together for a United Opposition to Sustain Our Democracy.”
Prominent opposition figures in attendance include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi; former Senate President David Mark; ex-Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso; and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, among others.
Several political parties are represented at the summit, including the People’s Redemption Party, Labour Party, Accord Party, All Progressives Movement, Youth Party, and Action Democratic Party. Each party is expected to present brief remarks during the session.
The event also features contributions from notable speakers such as Chidi Odinkalu, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission; Mike Igini, a former INEC resident electoral commissioner; and Kabir Adamu, who are addressing participants on the need for unity and the strengthening of democratic institutions.
