Chelsea have been given a suspended one-year ban from signing first-team players and an immediate nine-month restriction on academy transfers after breaching Premier League financial rules
The violations, which occurred during the Roman Abramovich era, involved incomplete financial reporting and missed payments. They do not affect Chelsea’s compliance with current Premier League profit and sustainability rules (PSR).
The club self-reported the issues, which the Premier League said was taken into account when determining the sanctions. Chelsea’s “exceptional cooperation throughout the investigation” was described as a “significant mitigating factor.”
No sporting penalties, such as a points deduction, were imposed. The first-team signing ban is suspended for two years, allowing Chelsea to continue registering senior players as long as no further breaches occur.
The academy transfer ban, effective immediately, prevents Chelsea from registering players tied to other English academies for nine months. However, current academy players and foreign signings are unaffected.
Chelsea were also hit with a record £10 million (€11.6m) fine. The club confirmed they have accepted the punishment and consider the matter closed.
