The Anambra State Government has demoted two principals over illegal levies. The principals of Community Secondary School, Awkuzu, and Community Secondary School, Igbakwu, were found to be collecting money from students, contravening the state’s free education policy.
Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), directed the principals to step aside and refund the monies collected within seven days.
The teachers involved will face also disciplinary action, including possible suspension.
The PPSSC has warned that any principal or teacher collecting money from students will be treated as a saboteur.
A monitoring team will conduct surprise visits to schools to enforce the this policy, following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive making education compulsorily free from nursery to secondary school in the state.
