The Katsina State Government has directed the immediate closure of all public schools across the state following rising security concerns and repeated banditry attacks in several communities
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, announced the decision on Friday while addressing newsmen in Katsina.
He explained that the shutdown became necessary to protect students and teachers as security agencies roll out a new statewide safety strategy for schools.
Jibia acknowledged that students are currently sitting for examinations but stressed that the protection of lives and property must take precedence.
He described the closure as a temporary measure that will remain in effect until a full security assessment is carried out, especially in areas identified as high-risk.
The directive comes amid heightened concern across the North-West following recent student abductions in Kebbi and Niger States.
“The state government assures citizens that normal academic activities will resume soon after security assessments are completed and adequate protection measures are put in place,” the Commissioner added.
