Two Dead As Emirates Cargo Plane Plunges Into The Sea [PHOTOS]

An Emirates cargo plane flying from Dubai to Hong Kong has overshot the runway and plunged into the ocean, killing two ground staff workers.

According to local media, flight EK9788 — which was being operated by Turkish carrier cargoAir ACT, went into the sea around 4am local time after landing at the northern end of Hong Kong’s International Airport.

The Boeing 747 aircraft which had departed from Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai reportedly struck a ground service vehicle before overshooting the runway and going into the water.

According to local media, South China Morning Post (SCMP), the ground staff workers were inside a vehicle that was struck by the aircraft, after it failed to stop at the end of the runway in time.

While the two deceased were initially reported missing, police later confirmed one man aged 30, was pulled from the water and died at the scene, while the other — a man aged 41 died after arriving to North Lantau Hospital.

In a statement released online, Emirates said the aircraft had sustained damage, and that the cargo aircraft was leased from and operated by ACT Airlines.

“Emirates confirms that EK9788 which sustained damage on landing in Hong Kong on 20 October 2025 was a cargo aircraft wet leased from, and operated by, Act Airlines,” the statement read.

“The aircraft is a Boeing 747-400 with registration TC-ACF. Crew are confirmed to be safe and there was no cargo onboard.”

It is understood those on board are four crew members who escaped unharmed.

According to the Airport Authority Hong Kong, one of the three runways at the airport has temporarily closed.
