President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Rome, Italy, for the Aqaba Process Heads of State and Government meeting aimed at addressing the rising security challenges in West Africa.

The high-level summit, co-chaired by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Italian government, is scheduled to open on Tuesday. It will bring together heads of state, senior intelligence and military officials from across Africa, alongside representatives of intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations.
Launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, the Aqaba Process serves as a global counter-terrorism initiative. This year’s edition focuses on emerging threats in West Africa, including the expansion of terrorist networks, the link between organised crime and terrorism, and the connection between Sahel insurgencies and maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
Participants will discuss strategies to enhance regional cooperation, counter the use of digital platforms for propaganda and recruitment, and curb online radicalisation.
According to the Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will also hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the summit to strengthen partnerships for regional security and stability.
