Super Falcons Star, Asisat Oshoala Becomes CAF Ambassador

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially appointed Nigerian football star, Asisat Lamina Oshoala as one of its new Ambassadors, recognizing her exceptional impact on women’s football across the continent.

The announcement adds another remarkable milestone to the illustrious career of the Ikorodu-born forward, whose influence extends far beyond the pitch.

Oshoala, born on October 9, 1994, has enjoyed a great career with top clubs such as Barcelona and Bay FC, following her early beginnings at FC Robo Queens in Lagos. Her achievements have cemented her status as one of Africa’s most successful and inspirational athletes.

She holds the record for the most CAF Women’s Player of the Year titles, winning the award six times — in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023 — more than any other African female footballer in history.

During the 2022–2023 season with FC Barcelona Femení, Oshoala finished as the top scorer in Spain with over 20 league goals and 27 across all competitions, leading her team to both the Liga F title and the UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy.

In her time with Barcelona, she netted an impressive 117 goals in 163 matches, contributing to multiple league, cup, and continental triumphs.

For the Nigerian national team, the Super Falcons, Oshoala has scored nearly 37 goals in more than 60 appearances. She has featured in several Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and is the first African player to score in three different FIFA Women’s World Cups.

As a CAF Ambassador, Oshoala is expected to play a key role in promoting women’s football across Afric–mentoring young players, supporting grassroots development, and using her global influence to advocate for greater investment and recognition in the women’s game.
