Gov. Adeleke Appoints Davido As Chairman Of Osun Sports Trust Fund

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has appointed his nephew, Davido, as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.

The appointment was announced by Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, during a courtesy visit by the Osun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

Adewusi explained that the move is part of the state government’s broader plan to reposition sports in Osun and create a sustainable funding framework through public and private partnerships.

“We are in advanced stages of establishing the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation,” he said. “The Sports Trust Fund will attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable financing and growth.”

According to the Deputy Governor, Davido accepted the role immediately, with the government confident that the music icon’s global influence and network will help draw significant funding and international attention to Osun’s sports ecosystem.

Adewusi also confirmed that the renovation of Osogbo Township Stadium is ongoing and will meet Olympic standards once completed. “The project aims to transform the facility into a world-class arena capable of hosting national and international events,” he said.

He added that with Davido leading the Sports Trust Fund, Osun State is poised for a new era of sports development and infrastructure transformation.

The appointment has sparked mixed reactions online, particularly over Governor Adeleke’s continued appointment of family members. In 2023, the governor had appointed another nephew, Tunji Adeleke, son of former governor, Isiaka Adeleke, as Chairman of the Board of Local Government.
