An Ode To Rev. Chukwuma Nelson By Trust Trust

A Reflection on My Father, Rev. Chukwuma Simion Nelson 

Today, I choose to speak about my father — Rev. Chukwuma Simion Nelson of the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria.

For a long time, I have remained silent regarding him, but I believe it is time to honour his memory in my own words. My father was not just a man of God — he was truly a child of God. There is a difference, and those who knew him will understand. His walk with Christ was marked by sincerity, integrity, and unwavering devotion.

Rev. Nelson pioneered and pastored several Assemblies of God churches across Aba and Abia State. His legacy of ministry is evident in many lives and places, including:

1. 261 Port Harcourt Road, Aba – AGC Ohabiam, where he served alongside the late Rev. J. N. Nwakanma.

2. 16/20 Obohia Road – A church where notable members such as Bro. Israel Ifeanyichukwu Anyanele (who married under his ministry), the late Anosike, O.C. Peters, and HRH Eze worshipped.

3. 61 Omenazu Avenue – Where he pastored members like the renowned PICO of Abiriba, Madam Iphie, Benon Carpets, and Chief Anya Awgu Asaa.

4. 53c Okigwe Road – Before relocating to Owerri Aba to establish a significant structure for AGC Nigeria. At that time, the late Rev. Umu Ukpai served as an evangelist at 39 Osusu under Rev. Iwuogaranya. My father and Dr. Uma Ukpai were best friends during their days in Scripture Union, Umule, Aba

5. 79 Ibere Street, Aba.

6. Enwereji Street, off Ohanku Road.

These are just a few of the churches. He pastored more than ten churches. He also pioneered the great AGC Ude-Alike in his hometown.

Today, I remember a great man — not in tribute, but simply to preserve this legacy and acknowledge his impact. Those who encountered him can attest to the strength of his character, his unwavering faith, and his pastoral care.

His good name continues to open doors for me — even internationally. That, in itself, is a testament to a life well lived.

I must also acknowledge the role of Chief Iheanyi Frank Chinasa (Dogo) during the later days of his life. Dogo, you stood by him — and for that, I honour you.

Before his passing — which still feels like yesterday — my father often echoed one profound statement:

“The grace of God will never lower the standard of God.”

Rest well, my father, My Hero, Papa Trust.

You live on in my heart, and every 16th of October will be marked as a day of remembrance for you until I too take my leave from this world.

I loved you then.

I love you now.

And I will continue to love you.
