Arsenal Sign Real Sociedad Midfielder, Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal have finalised an agreement to sign one of Spain’s best midfielders this summer.

The Gunners are preparing for a busy transfer window, and a new defensive midfielder is one of the top priorities for the London heavyweights.

Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi has been heavily linked with the Gunners for several months. The club have now ‘verbally agreed’ terms, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Spaniard has committed to sign a long-term deal with the Gunners and ‘formal steps must follow soon’ to trigger his £51 million release clause.

Romano wrote on X:
“Arsenal agree deal to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, here we go! Zubimendi has now verbally agreed to sign a long term deal… so formal steps must follow soon with Arsenal to trigger €60m clause. Zubi, ready to become the first signing of the new season.”

The Gunners have had a long-term interest in the Spain international. They were first interested in signing him two years ago, but the midfielder had no plans to leave Sociedad.

Liverpool came close to landing his signature last summer, but Zubimendi preferred to stay put at his boyhood club. However, he has eventually made the decision to move on.

The 26-year-old is a defensive midfielder and has impressed with his positioning and ball control. He has won an impressive 58 percent of his duels in La Liga this season.

The Spaniard has also registered 2.2 tackles, 2.4 clearances and 4.1 recoveries per outing. He is expected to replace Jorginho, who will leave Arsenal on a free transfer to Flamengo this summer.

Zubimendi had a brilliant midfield partnership with Mikel Merino for many years at Sociedad. We could see the pair reunited in the centre of the park in particular games next term.

Real Madrid have also been credited with regular interest in Zubimendi, but it appears Arsenal have now convinced the Euro 2024 winner to choose them as his next destination.
