The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of veteran Nollywood actor and academic, Dr. Columbus Irosanga.

His death was announced on Instagram by veteran actress, Hilda Dokubo.

“There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood,”. Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu,”  she wrote.
Born and raised in Okrika, Rivers State, Dr. Irosanga was known for his captivating roles as a chief priest in Nollywood films, particularly his portrayal of “Igbudu” in the 2001 hit movie Isakaba.

His talent earned him several accolades, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Best Actor in a Drama at the City People Entertainment Awards, and Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Best of Nollywood Awards.

Beyond acting, Dr. Irosanga was a senior lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt’s Department of Theatre Arts, where he mentored many aspiring actors.

He is survived by his wife and children. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, but his passing is a significant loss to both the academic and entertainment communities in Nigeria.

His death comes amid a string of recent losses in Nollywood, including actress Pat Ugwu, whose death was announced by her colleague Emeka Okoye.

“Rest in peace sis. Pat Ugwu. @patpat_ugwu so we no get to work again? Death whyooo? God please. Rest in peace PAT. May your soul rest in the bosom of the Lord.”

He also voiced concern over the rising number of deaths in Nollywood, saying, “God, please protect all my colleagues, especially those I am close to. This unusual death is frightening. I proclaim life to everyone close to me this 2025 in the precious blood of Jesus. Amen.”
