The Lagos State Government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a significant increase in boarding fees for public schools in the state.
The new fee, set at N100,000 per term, represents a nearly 300% increase from the previous N35,000.
This change, effective for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic session, has been communicated to boarding school principals through a circular from the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
The directive says that no additional fees should be collected by schools.
This increase coincides with economic hardship in the country, adding to concerns for parents already struggling with rising prices of food items, including educational materials, ahead of the new school year commencing on September 15, 2024.
