D'Tigress, three-time Women’s Afrobasket Champions who are making their third appearance at the Olympics after Athens 2004 and Tokyo2020, dug deep to beat Canada ranked 5th, 79-70.
The Coach, Rena Wakama-side lost to hosts France (54-75) in the second game of the tournament after a shocking victory against Australia (75-62) in the opening game. The African team came into the tournament as the lowest-placed side (12th) but kudos to defensive dexterity has beaten the World's No 3 & No 5.
The first quarter saw both sides jostling for ascendancy but there was nothing to separate the sides as it ended 18-18.
However, the Canadian team came into the 2nd quarter with some renewed zest and ended up finishing the 2nd quarter 23-19.
Despite a late fightback from Canada in the fourth quarter, the Nigeria side held on to their nine-point lead.
