Court Of Appeal Reinstates Ondo Deputy Speaker

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, has overturned the expulsion of former Deputy Speaker, Hon. Iroju Ogundeji, who had already completed his tenure.

In a unanimous decision, the court reinstated Ogundeji, reversing the earlier removal ordered by the Assembly.

The ruling, delivered by Justices Oyebisi Folayemi Omoleye, Frederick Oziakpono-Oho, and Yusuf Alhaji Bashir, upheld the earlier judgment by Justice Akintan Osadebey.

Ogundeji, who represented Odigbo State Constituency, was suspended and removed as Deputy Speaker by the former Speaker, Hon. David Bamidele Oleyeloogun.

However, the court declared his removal unconstitutional and ordered his reinstatement, along with the payment of all his entitlements up-to-date and the restoration of his paraphernalia of office.

Additionally, the court awarded N10 million in damages to Ogundeji for the humiliation suffered during his purported impeachment and suspension.
