
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have crashed out of the 2024 Paris Olympics without a win after losing 3-1 to Japan, making it three losses in three games.
Nigeria lost their first two games against Brazil and Spain, but went into Wednesday’s match hoping to make it to the quarter-finals of the women’s football event of the Olympics.
During the Wednesday clash, Japan scored twice in the opening minutes after Hamano Maika scored first before Tanako Maina’s well-taken free-kick beat Chiamaka Nnadozie in the 32nd minute.
The Japanese girls wrapped up the victory with another goal by Hikaru Kitagawa after Jennifer Echegini thought she had given the Nigerians a lifeline when she put one back.
Nadeshiko Japan finished as Group B runner-up, two points behind World Champions, Spain who beat Brazil 2:0.
