Everything To Know About The iPhone 15, Expected New Features And Price

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 series on September 12, showcasing the new products to be released later this month.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 this September, aligning with the tech company's three-year cycle for major releases.

Due to the launch lining up with the tri-annual release window that was enacted in 2014 for the iPhone 6, major changes are expected for the iPhone 15 and its variants — similar to the overhauls that came with the iPhone X in 2017 and the iPhone 12 in 2020.

Unlike the iPhone 14, of which the camera advancement was among its most significant updated features, the iPhone 15 is predicted to see several transformational changes with its new models.

According to Forbes, the predicted September product series is expected to come in four variants: iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Significant differences are rumored to be prevalent between the Pro and non-Pro iPhones.

Like all Apple releases, specific details have been kept under wraps ahead of the launch. (Apple did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment). However, experts like Bloomberg's chief tech correspondent Mark Gurman — who has accurately reported on Apple's product plans for over a decade — said "the niceties will give users more reasons than ever to splurge on Apple’s priciest phones," per the outlet.

When will the iPhone 15 be released?

The iPhone 15 model is expected to be unveiled at Apple's "Wonderlust" event on Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Cupertino, California this year. Apple even launched a countdown on YouTube for the highly-anticipated event.

The product introduction begins at 10 a.m. PT — which is also expected to give consumers a first look at new Apple Watches, Airpods and other gear, in addition to the phones. The products are predicted to hit Apple shelves on Friday, Sept. 22, 2023.

What will the iPhone 15 look like?

Over the years, the iPhone has seen several designs that differed in color, dimensions, thickness and screen size. Since the first iPhone was released in January 2007, the evolution of its models have advanced.

According to Luke Lin, senior smartphone analyst at Digitimes Research, the iPhone 15 is expected to be titanium instead of stainless steel. Because of this change — plus the newly-introduced periscope lens upgrade which is predicted to only be for the Pro Max, performing 5-6x optical zoom — the iPhone 15 Pro series "is likely to suffer from a major price hike."

What new features will the iPhone 15 have?

The iPhone 15 series is likely to have various updated features — and once again, the camera is among the most notable advancements. The Pro mode, specifically, is supposed to see the most significant changes.

According to a Sept. 7 report by analysts at Wedbush Securities, the Pro models will feature an A17 bionic chip which will make the product "noticeably faster." It is expected to also feature enhanced battery and technology, in addition to improved camera technology.

"We believe the star of the launch will be the iPhone 15 Pro Max having periscope telephoto lens that significantly boosts the optical zoom capability," per the analysts in the report. "This will allow for 5x-6x optical zoom vs. 3x with the iPhone 14 Pro."

The iPhone 15 is also likely to feature a USB-C charging port, the same port built into Android smartphone models. "A transition to the USB-C port from its current Lightening connector would be a significant leap for the company, which has been one of the main holdouts in adopting the sockets," per CBS News.
How much will the iPhone 15 cost?
Due to the titanium advancement and Apple’s first 10x optical zoom camera, the iPhone 15 Pro Max "could rise by as much as $200," according to Forbes. This would make it "the most expensive iPhone ever released."

The aforementioned outlet listed the potential iPhone 15 prices, based on the predicted price hikes:

iPhone 15: starting from $799 (unchanged)
iPhone 15 Plus: starting from $899 (unchanged)
iPhone 15 Pro: starting from $1,099 ($100 increase)
iPhone 15 Pro Max: starting from $1,299 ($200 increase)

Should you wait to purchase the iPhone 15?

There's no denying that Apple users are drawn to the company's newest and improved iPhones, but experts often advice those interested to gauge whether the product is worth the immediate purchase.

Olivier Blanchard, a research director at tech research firm The Futurum Group, told CBS MoneyWatch that deciding to upgrade your iPhone should depend on the model currently owned. He suggests keeping newer products, like the iPhone 12 or later models — especially if Apple increases its prices.

"I'm not hearing about any amazing new features," he added told the outlet. "We're not going to see anything super crazy interesting or different, unfortunately." However, if Apple owners possess an older model, the iPhone 15's upgraded features could be worth the investment.

What's the difference between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15?

The aforementioned features that the iPhone 15 is likely to include differentiate the latest Apple model from products in the past. In addition to the camera zoom advancements expected in the Pro and Max, the charging port is among the most significant predicted difference between the new model and the iPhone 14 series.
