In my formative years, growing up with lots of love and support from my family and pals, Christmas was one season I always looked forward to. The feeling of the harmattan, the early morning dew during the Christmas season, the love in the air, and the coming together of all family members both nuclear and extended family members were second to none.
During this season, "Christmas rice" tastes so different and unique from every other meal we had throughout that year. Not because there was any special spice that we had never used during the year in preparing other meals but because the major special ingredient in surplus was LOVE.
Outside the meal, "Christmas songs" was another catchment. Whenever the "Jingle bell" came on or the Silent Night and "Santa is coming to town was played, it would take my spirit to another realm. We sang most of these songs without knowing the meaning or the lyrics. Little did we know that the message of all times was hidden in these songs.
For instance, this song:-
"Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn king.
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled..."
These lines contains the greatest message of all times. The essence of Christmas and the very purpose of Christmas were defined in the song and my message to "Ndi Bende" is also in the song, the second stanza, the last two lines.
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth...
As we remember the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ today, let's not forget the message of hope, love and forgiveness that this season brings.
Jesus is the reason for this season. Let us emulate him and let the beauty of Jesus be seen in every home.
It is my earnest prayer that we will end this year stronger and better.
Merry Christmas 🎄
