In a statement released by her media office on Monday in commemoration of the 2019 Children's Day, Senator Ekwunife described the future of the Nigerian child as inextricably intertwined to the success and development of the country.
She noted that access to education, childcare services and the protection of the rights of children fall whithin the purview of what is expected from a responsible society.
Describing access to education as the greatest gift any society can give to her Children, Ekwunife called for efforts to ensure that the number of out-of-school children is reduced to it's barest minimum, and the provision of an enabling environment where the Nigerian child can thrive.
She said, "The task of ensuring that our children get the best of education, care and attention is a task that must be jointly executed by all critical stakeholders of the society. The family, the religious and the government must all rise up to their roles of ensuring that the Nigerian child is given all the necessary support that will guarantee that he is well equipped for the future".
A greater Nigeria can only be guaranteed when our children are provided the enabling environment where they can, at an early age, discover and harness their talents in preparation for the future before them".
She called for concerted efforts towards ensuring that the child rights are protected and a continuous review of the way our children are educated to be in line with the ever-changing socio-economic demands. On her own part, she assured her commitment to the development of the Nigerian child through programmes and projects designed to improve access to learning for the children in her constituency and beyond.
