ONLGA: OSHIMILI NORTH LGA POLITICS IN RETROSPECT.

Written by
Dr Ruth Nkeaka

Taking Oshimili North LGA in context let's critically assess what our numerous House of Assembly Aspirants have contributed and are capable of contributing.

The wilderness experience of Oshimili North LGA was a journey for all to ensure the Party's survival irrespective of age, gender and status. It was a journey marked by extreme loyalty, commitment, dedication and love for the Party for some while for others it was a journey of indifference. For some it was a journey of going in search of manna while some others waited for manna to be brought to their doorsteps.

Though journey for all, it saw some as BYSTANDERS, some as COMPLAINANTS while others were NONCHALANT.

But for a very few, the journey was one of survival: Survival of the Party in ONLGA. These few are those who went through a very rough and tough wilderness experience to see to the survival of the Party at the LGA level thus ensuring that the Party Survives, Stands and Stays Alive.
One of such few is Hon. Innocent Esewezie.
In all, it was a journey for all.

Hon. Esewezie remains one of the oldest PDP members in ONLGA having joined the Party in 2000 at a very tender age.

Not one to sit and wait for manna to fall at his doorstep, young Esewezie immediately hit the ground running to fully integrate himself solidly into the Party. He exhibited capacity, commitment and dedication.

In 2002, he was deemed fit to be TRANSITION COMMITTEE COUNCILOR for Ward 5 because the Party saw in him a young man that was destined for great heights.

In 2004, he indicated interest, he contested and he won the Ward 5 Councillorship Seat in an OPTION A4 ELECTION. It was a landslide victory never before seen in the history of Councillorship elections in the LGA. The overwhelming support he got across board was evident that he was the People's Choice and an Agent of the needed Change.

In 2008, after a successful 3year tenure as Councilor, a bigger appointment awaited him as POLITICAL AIDE to the then State PDP Chairman who is now our most distinguished Senator in the Red Chamber, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi. Our Senator obviously saw in young Esewezie rare potentials to excell politically and he was ready to harness it fully if only the young man, Esewezie was ready to learn from him. Off course he presented himself for a total tutelage to the man who now doubled as his Mentor and Father. He held this Position as P.A for 3years.

In 2011, the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan appointed him as SPECIAL ASSISTANT (Political Affairs) in his Administration. And in the same year he served as OSHIMILI NORTH LGA COORDINATORof Okowa's Senatorial Campaign Organization.

His activities at the LGA level was so outstanding that In 2012, he was the one and only choice for OSHIMILI NORTH LGA TRANSITION COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN. A Position he held for less than 2 years during which he uniquely transformed the LGA by taking governance to a higher pedestal.

It is NOT how long one has been in the Party but how well you distinguished yourself.

Coincidentally, while Hon. Innocent Esewezie was serving the people, gathering knowledge and building his Political capacity this was not the case for some others who would rather wait to be served.
