184 Killed In Huge Attack On A Mosque In Egypt

 Egyptian state media said a bomb and gun attack took place during Friday prayers at the Al-Rawda mosque in Bir al-Abed, west of Arish city at volatile Sinai peninsula.

184 people are reported to have been killed while 85are injured following a bomb and gun attack during Friday prayers at the mosque.

The attack has been described as a "terrorist incident," citing "official sources". Egypt’s health ministry, meanwhile, said that 85 people have died and 80 have been injured.

More than 50 ambulances were dispatched to the attack site to to transfer victims to hospitals, according to a press release issued by the State Information Service.

Three police officers, who spoke on anonymity, said that four militants who had arrived in off-road vehicles approached and opened fire on worshipers during prayer.

A state of emergency had been declared in Sinai, while Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi declared three days of mourning for the victims of the blast.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the violence, but the multi-pronged style of the attack bore the hallmarks of jihadi groups affiliated with ISIS and Al Qaeda.

The mosque was said to be belonging to the mystical Sufi school of Islam that is considered blasphemous by extremists including ISIS and the Wahabbi school of Islam propagated by neighboring Saudi Arabia.
