ASUU Strike: Presidency Debunks Reports Of Osibanjo To Take Over FG-ASUU Negotiations

Two days after a report went viral that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has taken over the negotiations with ASUU, the presidency has debunked the statement saying the minister was misrepresented and misunderstood.

After the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour had said the vice president will now preside over the FG-ASUU talks.

In a statement issued today, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande said Osinbajo will not head the negotiation team and that his principal was widely misunderstood.
He said;
‘‘Media reports seemed to have misunderstpod what Labour & Employment Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige meant when he spoke with reporters about the negotiations after the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

The Vice President had a discussion with FEC with both the Labour Minister and Education Minister Malam Adamu Adamu around the issues, but has not taken over the negotiations as widely believed.

Mr. Ngige and Mr. Adamu will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks.

The Federal Government continues to diligently pursue a prompt resolution of this dispute and is confident the matter would be resolved".
