BREAKING: ASUU Commences Indefinite Nationwide Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced an indefinite nationwide industrial action.

The National President of the union, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi, announced this on Monday during a meeting of the National Executive Council of ASUU in Abuja.

ASUU had earlier asked all its branches in the various universities to conduct referendum of members to decide whether a nationwide strike should be held over its demands or not.

In a memo dated August 12 2017, ASUU officially declared a nationwide indefinite strike which will effectively suspend academic activities across universities in the country.

According to a statement signed by Ogunyemi, the union resolved to embark on a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide strike action which will commence with immediate effect.

See the official memo declaring the strike below:

Recall the the union had in 2013 embarked on a six months strike over the 2009 agreement which the government is yet to honor.

Will this strike ever end considering the state of the nation in the absence of the President?
