Three persons have been confirmed dead as the convoy of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. Nsima Ekere, was involved in a road accident.
In a statement issued yesterday by the Director, Corporate Affairs of the commission, Mr. Toye Abosede, said the incident happened at Esiene Junction in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State when a trailer hit one of the entourage vehicle carrying policemen attached to the NDDC boss who was on an official duty to receive the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo in Calabar.
According to Mr. Abosede two policemen were confirmed dead in the pilot vehicle and one other passenger on a commercial motorcycle, popularly called okada/bike who was hit by the pressure from the patrol vehicle.
“The victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital where they are receiving urgent medical attention for injuries,” he said.
He said other members of the entourage in other vehicles were unhurt in the incident.
“As I speak to you now, I am at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo. I can confirm that two policemen in the pilot vehicle are dead while a civilian who was an Okada passenger also died. Others are receiving treatment in the hospital”, he said.
