The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, have come out boldly to deny making any form of promise of providing 20,000 megawatts of electricity to Nigerians during the 2015 election campaigns.

Muhammadu Buhari, under APC reportedly promised Nigerians 20,000 megawatts of electricity in its first tenure if voted into power during the campaign. Fashola who is also an APC member had during a lecture titled “Nigeria’s Electricity Challenge: A Roadmap for Change" said that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), under him, would increase transmission capacity to 20,000 megawatts for over four years.
Fashola said:“TCN has expressed a desire to increase transmission capacity from 5,000MW to 7,000MW, 10,000MW to 13,000MW to 16,000MW and 20,000MW over four years from 2016'.
Recall that in February 2015, the APC, government while unfolding its campaign agenda, said that it would generate at least 20,000 megawatts of electricity in four years to surpass Nigeria’s former consumption level of around 15,000MW to boost the country's power supply.
The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation in promising the 20,000 megawatts, said that Government under President Goodluck Jonathan had only added 1,400MW to the national grid in four years.
On Tuesday, 30th May, 2017 the APC and the minister for power, Fashola has denied making such promise while taking questions from journalists at the National Secretariat.
According to the minister and the members of the National Working Committee led by the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie- Oyegun, there was no time the party made such promise. He said: “Where did you read that one? If you can’t produce where you read that, it means you are not right.”
